Bikes these days can appear so complicated!!! So many different components, brands, models and configurations to choose from!

In our workshop, we aim to make your choices as straightfoward as possible. For most of the components on a bike, we personally use and recommend Shimano components for several reasons:

• They work!!!! Shimano knows what they are doing when it comes to bike components
• Reliability and durability
• Ease of maintenance and serviceability - Shimano components tend to be much more serviceable and therefore repairable than many other brands.

There are a couple of things to remember, however:

1. Whatever brand you choose, stick to one brand for all your components which work togethor (e.g. a complete Shimano drivetrain). We have found from extensive experience that by using (for example) a Shimano chain, SRAM cassette, and Truvativ chainrings will not perform as well as using all Shimano parts.
2. Regular maintenance is the key! Even the best quality XTR or Dura-ace gear will die a horrible death if ridden relentlessly in terrible conditions without regular servicing! Look after your gear!
